Uravu Wayanad is a non-government organization in Wayanad. It works in coordination with people, governments and businesses to implement programs for sustainable employment and income generation in rural areas. Established in 1996, is a non-profit trust, registered under the Indian Trusts Act. It promotes social enterprises based on value addition to local, natural resources, especially bamboo, the ‘green gold’. The organisation implements integrated, end-to-end programs in the bamboo sector. It include providing skill training in bamboo processing, establishing micro enterprises, marketing of bamboo handicraft, cultivation of bamboo and promotion of eco-tourism etc. It strives for empowering indigenous people like, marginalized social groups, especially the traditional artisans, women etc. Probably, the best place to buy your memento if you like some unique crafts made out of Bamboo.
