Pakshipathalam Trek is one of the best Trekking Experience in Wayanad. Pakshipathalam is located 7 km North-East of Thirunelli Temple in the deep forest of Brahmagiri Hills. Not visited by too many Wayanad Tourists as this trekking is a little hard and can’t be accessed easily. Nature lovers will be amazed by the Pakshipathalam Bird Sanctuary as a lot of varieties of rare species of birds can be seen during the trek through the thick forest. It takes 3-4 hrs to complete the trek one way. Precautions for Leeches (salt or a mixture of mustard oil and tobacco) along with a first aid kit and torches are mandatory for this trek. The adventurous trip of Pakshipathalam Trekking and the trip to a cave believed to have used for medical research by ancient saints in the forest will be a great memory even after years. You can do the trekking to Pakshipathalam 7 days a week, depending upon the restrictions imposed by Forest Department. However, generally, entry is not permitted during the months of February to May. Pakshipathalam Bird Sanctuary Timing is 0600 h to 1800 h, suggested reaching the early morning, considering the long trek.
