Tyavarekoppa lion and tiger camp: The camp, which was established in 1988 is legendary amongst lovers of nature and jungle safaris. The camp is spread over 200 hectares and is home to many lions and tigers along with various other fauna that simply blends into the surroundings including bears, leopards, and sloth bears. The entry fees is Rs 10 and for Van trip Rs 50 is to be paid The camp functions from morning 10:00 AM to evening 5:00 PM with Tuesday being a holiday.
Gajanur dam: The Gajanur dam is built across the Tunga river and is 535 meters in length. It is located at a distance of 10 km from the city. It offers a marvelous sight of the river in its all glory and surrounding flora and fauna that inhabit the area. The Sakrebailu elephant camp is at a distance of 3 km from here and can be visited along with the dam.
Shivappanaika palace museum: Shimoga, while widely known for its natural beauty and landscapes is also host to a place that is of utmost historical significance- the Shivappanaika palace museum. The palace is constructed using rosewood and dates back to the 16th century. The museum within its premises has a wide collection of stone carvings, inscriptions, and sculpture that speak volumes about the Keladi culture and heritage.
Mandagadde bird sanctuary: Located at a distance of 30km from Shimoga, the bird sanctuary is home to various exotic and indigenous species of birds. There is a watchtower within the sanctuary that can be used to view the birds from a great vantage point. Boating services are also provided by the forest department and offer great sights and sounds for the senses. The entry fee is Rs. 50/- per person.
Kundadri: The Kundadri hill is located at a distance of 91 km from Shimoga city. At an elevation of 2710 ft, the Kundadri hill is home to a 17th-century Jain temple. The sights of the surrounding landscapes from the hill make it a popular tourist destination for people visiting Shimoga.
Jog Falls: Located in the Sagara Taluk in the district of Shimoga, the falls is located at a distance of 100 km from the city of Shimoga. It has a drop of 1100 ft and is one of the country’s highest waterfalls. It is a segmented waterfall with four distinct segments – the Raja, Roarer, Rocket, and Rani.
