Places to Visit in Kabini

Places to Visit in Kabini : Kabini Wildlife Sanctuary and Stay in a luxury resort on the bank of Kabini river!! Safari in Nagarhole National Park (Kabini Wildlife Sanctuary) is the most sought after Wildlife Safari in South India. Kabini, also called Kabani and Kapila, is a river originating from Hills of Wayanad and flows Eastward to join Kaveri in Karnataka and ends up at Bay of Bengal. Numerous tributaries join this river at various stages to form the mighty Kabani. Close to the town of Sargur in South-West Karnataka, it forms the huge Kabini Reservoir.  The backwaters of the reservoir are very rich in wildlife. Especially in summer when the water level recedes to form rich grassy meadows it became a paradise for wildlife. Because of its accessibility, lush green landscape surrounding a large lake, and sightings of herds of elephants, tigers and many other species, the Kabini Forest Reserve is one of the most popular wildlife destinations of Karnataka. Situated on the banks of the Kabini River, the reserve is spread over 55 acres of forestland cuddled with steep valleys  and water bodies. It  was once a popular hunting hotspot for British Viceroys and Indian royalty, especially Maharajas of Mysore.  One of the major places to visit in Kabini, Nagarhole National Park is spread between Kodagu and Mysore Districts, and is separated from Bandipur National Park by Kabini river. Comprising  thick green forest, tiny streams, small valleys and waterfalls, the National park is home to tigers, Indian bison, elephants, four-horned antelopes, sloth bears, porcupine, jackals, leopards, wild dogs, sloth bears, hyenas, spotted deer, sambars, barking deer, gaurs and wild boars etc.  The Reserve is a part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, and the  Nagarhole National Park is under consideration by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee for selection as a World Heritage Site. The park is also home to more than 250 species of some of the rarest birds in India and variety snakes. The ecosystem of this reservoir supports the highest density of herbivores, in Asia. Another attraction of Kabini is the famous Orange County Resort. The stay at Orange County Resort would be an experience of a lifetime. The resort is on the banks of Kabini river and provides you the wonderful opportunity of sighting of wild animals.  Other prominent nearby resorts are Read Earth, The Bison, The Serai, Waterwoods.
