Coorg

Coorg, a popular hill station in Karnataka also known as ‘Kodagu’, is situated on the Eastern slope of the Western Ghats. Thanks to the agrarian population that lives here, it is among one of those few places that still has unblemished natural belongings.  Madikeri (Also called Mercara), one among the many places to visit in Coorg, is the capital of District Coorg (Kodagu). Blessed with large estates of Coffee plantations blended with Pepper veined trees and orange bushes, Coorg is also rich in Honey production and Ginger cultivation. Coorg is colored with many communities like Kodavas (being main community), Gowdas, Brahmins, Christians and Jains, and Tribes such as Yeravas, Kurubas, Airies and Kudiyas.  Kodava takk, a pure Dravidian language, is the Mother Tongue. Coorg also has other languages like Kannada, Tulu and Malayalam also being widely used.  Another best thing to experience at Coorg is its wildlife. This small district has three Wildife Sanctuaries (Brahmagiri, Talacuavery, and Pushpagiri) and one National Park (Rajiv Gandhi National park, Nagarhole).  Coorg celebrates three major festivals- Kailpoldhu, Kavery Sankaramana, and Puthari.
