Places to Visit in Chikmagalur : Chikmagalur, also known as Chickmagaluru, is a small town located on th foothills of the Mullayanagiri mountain range in Karnataka. Sringeri Sharada Peetha: The Sringeri Sharada Peetha is located at Sringeri at a distance of about 85 km from the town of Chikmagalur. It is a mutt or a monastery that was established by the philosopher Adi Shankara in the 9th century. The place is a must-see destination for tourists as it can ease all worries and make one feel a spiritual connection with the natural surroundings.
Veera Narayana temple: The Veera Narayana temple is located in the small village of Belavadi in Chickmagalur district and is 29 km away from the town itself. It was built in the year 1200 by the Hoysalan king Veera Ballala II. Hoysalan architecture and engineering at its finest, the temple is home to many extravagant and intricate sculptures, pathways, pillars and highly decorated friezes.
Baba budangiri: Located at a distance of 25 km from the town in the Baba Budan range of the western ghats, the baba budangiri is a peak located in the range. Baba budangiri has a shrine that is dedicated to the sufi saint baba budan, and is considered a holy place by many. It also surrounded by many beautiful waterfalls like the manikyadhara falls, many caves and is a ideal place for trekking as well.
Kudremukh peak: The kudremukh peak is located at a distance of 102 km from the town in the district of Chickmagalur. The peak is the third highest peak in the region after the Mullayanagiri peak and the Baba Budangiri with an elevation of 6213 ft. The peak is so named because the peak resemble the face of a horse. The peak is ideal for trekking and sightseeing as it is home to some really exotic landscape and scenic sunrises and sunsets.
Kudremukh national park: The Kudremukh national park is located near the Kudremukh peak and is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. The park is covered in grass for the most part and is home to such species such as the tiger, leopard, wild dog, common langur, sloth bear, gaur, porcupine, sambar, spotted deer amongst others. While you are here don’t forget to visit Thekadambi waterfalls, which is a delight to the senses. There is an entry fee of Rs.400 that is chargeable for entry.
Ayyanakere Lake: The Ayyanakere lake is located at about 20 km from the town and lies in the Malnad region. The lake is the second largest lake in Karnataka and is a visual spectacle that is worth your visit.
