Often called as the Land of the Lords and Forts, Kasaragod offers a variety of destinations that enhances the beauty of the region..

Tourist Places in Kasaragod

Bekal Fort: Spread over a vast land of 40 acres, the Bekal Fort is the largest fort in Kerala. Some of the rare constructions found here are the water-tank with its flight of steps, the tunnel opening to the south, the ammunition magazine for and the broad steps leading to the Observation Tower. Apart from the above, the zigzag puzzle form entrances and trenches bear witness to the ancient Defense strategies adopted during the time. Another unique fact of this fort is the co–existing temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman and an old mosque stands to this date as a spectator to the religious harmony during the golden era.

Chandragiri Fort: Spread over seven acres and built during the 15th century, the Chandragiri Fort is known for its large squarish structure. With the backdrop of river Payaswani, the fort although in a state of ruins offers an amazing picturesque view. The river coastlines and the orange setting sun adds a exceptional glamour to the fort.

Ananthapura Lake Temple: With a temple in the middle, the Ananthapura Lake Temple is the only lake temple in Kerala. Believed to be the original seat (Moolasthanam) of Lord Ananthapadmanabha Swami (Padmanabhaswamy temple) Thiruvananthapuram, legend has it that this is the original site where Lord Ananthapadmanabha settled down. Tourists and visitors may also get a chance to meet Babia, the guardian crocodile of the cave in the right end corner of the lake.

Madhur Temple: Also known as the Madhanenshwara Temple, Lord Shiva abodes in this holy shrine. The Ganapathy statue found on the walls of the Garbhagriha (sanctum sanctorum) was drawn by a priest’s son, while playing. Legend says that as day passed by it became big and fat; so that the boy called Ganapathi as “boddajja” or “bodda ganesha”. Being the greatest temple of Lord Shiva, it is also one of the most famous among the six temples in Tulunadu.

Ranipuram: Famed as the Ooty of Kerala, Ranipuram is a hill station that lies 750 meters above sea level. The ambience of the forest and the cloud engulfed hill tops and not to mention the obvious mesmerizing and breathtaking scenery that makes this trekking experience worth every bit of the trip. With elephants and leopards as occasional visitors, butterflies and birds can be found in abundance in these regions.

Kappil Beach: A remote and yet to be explored beach, where nature unfolds its beauty in the most mesmerizing manner. With the Kodi cliff, the Arabian Sea and Pallikunnam temple as the backdrop, one could simply find a unique sense of calmness and silence. Being one of the cleanest and unpolluted beaches of Kerala, the Kappil Beach, is growing into a tourist spot.

Tejaswani-Valiyaparamba Backwaters: The Tejaswani-Valiyaparamba Backwaters with its coconut and arecanut grooves and green leafy bays offers an amazing scenic beauty.
