Kozhikode Railway Station (CLT) is the nearest railway station from Wayanad, at a distance of 80 km from Kalpetta (Dist HQ), Wayanad.The Mysore Railway Stationknown as Mysore Junction (MYS) is at a distance 140 km from Kalpetta. Tourists coming from Chennai have the option of reaching Calicut or Mysore and further move to Wayanad.
How to reach Wayanad by Road
Wayanad is well connected by road from Bangalore, Mysore, Calicut, Kannur, Mangalore, Coimbatore, Kochi, Ooty etc. Reaching Wayanad by road from Calicut, Mysore and Ooty is very convenient. Kerala State Road Transport Corporation has services from Trivandrum, Ernakulam (Kochi/Cochin), Calicut (Kozhikode), Kottayam, Alleppey, Thrissur, Munnar, Mysore and Bangalore etc. Karnataka Road Transport Corporation also has bus services plying to Wayanad. Buses from Bangalore/Mysore to Calicut/Eranakulamfollowing the route Mysore – Gundlupet - SulthanBathery – Kalpetta goes through Wayanad. There are also buses from Bangalore International Airport to Mysore, from where you can board the KSRTC buses to Wayanad. You can alight at SulthanBathery or Kalpetta depending upon the place of your accommodation. You may not find a place called Wayanad, if you search on various portals of bus, as there is no specific place by that name. The places you need to search on portals are SulthanBathery or Kalpetta.
There are AC Volvo buses of Kerala, Karnataka and Private provider in Bangalore –Calicut route, which would enable you to get down at Kalpetta or SulthanBathery. Ensure that you book the ticket well in advance for weekends and peak periods.
Tourists coming from Chennai to Wayanad can be picked up from Mysore or Calicut. They can reach these places by Train or Road. Karnataka SRTC and private luxury buses ply from Chennai to Mysore/Calicut during night. Calicut is connected to Chennai by Flight as well.
Tourists coming from Trivandrum to Wayanad can travel by overnight Volvo buses, which reache Wayanad in the morning (Kalpetta/SulthanBathery). Alternately, they can travel by train upto Calicut (2.5 h from Wayanad), where we can arrange pick up by cab. Trivandrum to Calicut Flight is available, though not daily.
How to reach Wayanad from Hyderabad - Tourists coming from Hyderabad to Wayanad can travel by overnight Volvo bus, which reaches Wayanad in the morning (Kalpetta/SulthanBathery). Alternately, they can travel by Volvo bus upto Mysore, where we can arrange pick up by cab. If you would like to travel by train, Bangalore would be the option. Hyderabad to Calicut Flight is also available.
